No? The doctor has had his own comic series for over 50 years. Doctor Who started off as a comic series then was brought to television due the popularity of the Daleks. The TV and Comic series have different “universes” but since the revived series the writers for the screenplay and comics work together to make sure that their plot lines dont collide.

And if anyone asks, I went to the Doctor Who comic exhibit at The London Comic museum for my 18th birthday last year. That is my source.
